Lupita Nyong'o has taken Hollywood by storm. Her award-winning performance in 12 Years a Slave made the world notice her grace, talent, and amazing sense of style. At the Miu Miu fashion show in Paris, Lupita was stunning in this purple silk collarless jacket with pockets and 3/4 sleeves.

You can take a similar type of jacket in just about any fabric and give it your own show-stopping DIY style by embellishing the shoulders and sleeves with large studs, as shown in this easy tutorial from Anarchy Street

A collarless, 3/4 sleeve jacket is so versatile - it can easily go from daytime corporate to nighttime cocktails. Here are the steps:

1. If your jacket is lined, you can cut holes in the lining where you want to place studs, or not - it's optional.

2. Place the first set of studs along the top of the shoulder sleeve in a diamond shape. Starting with the stud placed exactly in the top corner of the sleeve and shoulder seam, work your way down the front of the sleeve. Each stud should be uniformly spaced with 1.5" - 2" in between.

3. Place each individual stud with the metal tabs on the top/bottom (versus left to right). Press the metal tabs into the fabric to score it. Using stud pliers, bend the metal tabs until they are completely flush against the back of the stud. If necessary, use a flat screwdriver to push each tab in further.

4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 to create the same stud pattern on the back of the sleeve.

Very chic! If your jacket has full-length sleeves, you can still scrunch or roll them up to show off your bracelets and bangles or catch a bit more of the summer breeze. Wear a blouse or shirt with a large, starched collar (like Lupita did) for a crisp and polished look.
