First Night Festival of the Arts
Dec 31, 1 pm-12 am

This annual New Year's Eve festival celebrates over 1,000 artists throughout downtown Beantown. Look for massive ice sculptures dotted throughout the city, fireworks at midnight, and the Family Festival at the Hynes Convention Center, which includes a DIY Crazy Hat station (one of our faves).

Now through Jan (Mon-Sat) 10am-6pm, (Thurs)10am-8pm, (Sun) 12-5pm

For something a little more subdued, the Guildford Art Center in southern Connecticut offers this annual marketplace, where all the proceeds benefit the center and its many diverse programs. Expect finely crafted toys, fiber, ornaments and more.

First Monday Trade Days
Dec 31-Jan 2, (Thurs-Sat) 8-5, (Sun) 8-4

Featured in Country Living magazine, the Texan town of Canton hosts the world's largest trade days, a monthly flea market with over 100 acres of shopping. But don't show up on Monday — the name's a bit of a misnomer since the marketplace opens on the days before the month's first Monday and not on.

New Year's Party at Flagger Beach
Dec 31-Jan 1, (Sat) 10-5, (Sun) 10-4

This first-time Floridian arts and crafts fair features handmade crafts and all-day shopping in the bright sunshine. We hope the address — Veterans Park at Flagler Beach — is close enough so you'll be able to find the booths and tents.

Alameda Point Antiques Faire
Jan 1, 6 am-3

As northern California's largest collectible fair (of the vintage persuasion), this marketplace promises unique antiques, none younger than 20 years. But beware, the earlier you come, the higher the admission price.
