Create a whimsical and unique button bracelet with this easy tutorial excerpted from "Beads & Buttons: 40 Projects for Handcrafted Jewelry & Accessories" by Juliette Pettit.

Materials:

• cotton cord in a variety of colors
• a tape measure
• scissors
• 40 (approximate) buttons of varying sizes and colors
• large glass beads

Step 1

Cut four lengths of 20 inches and two lengths of 28 inches from the various cords. String the buttons onto them, making a simple knot at the back of each button and placing them 1½ to 2 inches apart.

Step 2

It is important to place them on the cords in an irregular manner so that they do not cover each other once you have finished the bracelet. String all the large glass beads in one location onto one of the cords in between two buttons. Leave a 4-inch stretch free of buttons at the end of each cord. Link all of the cords together by making a knot 21/3 inches from the end of the shorter cords and 61/3 inches from the ends of the longer ones. Tie the cords together in this manner on both ends.

Step 3

Take the two longest cords at each end and wind one around the ends of the remaining cords (approximately five times) so as to hold them all together. Make a double knot with the other long cord.

Step 4

Tie the longest two ends in a bow at your desired length. This piece may be worn either as a necklace or a bracelet.

I love this idea! Does anyone have ideas for a similar craft? I was thinking bottle caps might look cool too!
