Who is a Creative Person?
In what context do you most often hear the phrase: “He / she / I am a creative person”? I usually hear it not at exhibitions, concerts, and presentations, but in an exclusively domestic environment, and under strictly defined circumstances: when the speaker is barring someone.
Everything is easily filed for creativity, from shameless punctuality to unwillingness to repay debts.
The idea that the nasty behavior of a talented person is a sure sign of subtle mental organization is a dangerous thing. If it is used for exculpatory purposes, this is still half the trouble.
Worse, when more or less gifted people with a wonderful peaceful character deliberately sculpt a bohemian image for themselves: well, then, a true artist must be abnormal! Who recognizes my chosenness while I am a family-employed man in a clean jacket? To drive out his wife, to stain his jacket, and to think of the world during working hours - perhaps they will kick out into the street. And expelled - there will be a reason for high suffering.
Belief in the special properties of alcohol goes hand in hand with the stereotype of creative foolishness: they say, they say, alcohol opens up the depths of the subconscious, which cannot be reached on a sober head.
They are lying! Even after one can of beer, it is completely impossible to draw or write poetry. The muse on the smell of a drinker, of course, will come, you violently write down a notebook with sudden revelations or boldly paint a couple of canvases with a trembling hand, but in the morning from the supposedly sacred burning there will be one slag. To admit or not that slag has come out is a matter of conscience. You can always say: "I am a genius, but you don’t understand anything," someone will believe ...
Why are the myths surrounding art so enduring?
Firstly, these myths are convenient for the authors of one and a half works that are engaged in art for the sake of different goodies - the opportunity to impress the opposite sex, to surprise friends. To do is easier than to create: if you work, it is not known whether you will pull a masterpiece; if you dope - you will instantly find yourself in the spotlight.
Secondly, sad stories about unhappy, ill-adapted artists play their role. A great example is the legend of Van Gogh. Sellers of paintings, followed by biographers and writers, transformed Vincent Van Gogh into a brilliant passionate madman.
Meanwhile, the artist’s paintings were not the result of miraculous insights.
Huge correspondence of the artist (by the way, published and available to anyone who wants it) is full of arguments about work, faith, morality.
