Sewing Plain Seams

Sewing Plain Seams
This seam is the simplest method of joining two pieces of fabric. Use it for straight or curved seams and all materials. Adapted from "How to Use, Adapt, and Design Sewing Patterns," by Lee Hollahan and published by Barron's Educational Series. Lead image from flickr.com/hoppobumpo.

Step 1

Place the right sides together, matching the raw edges, and pin along the sewing line.

Step 2

Use a straight stitch and sew along the sewing line, removing the pins in the process.

Step 3

Press the seam open or to one side and neaten using a seam finish.
