Spring is now officially here, and this means that there is now one thing on many people’s minds – Spring Cleaning! Spring cleaning typically refers to the process of cleaning up a house in time for the spring, however there is now a lot of the attention on the importance of cleaning up gardens at the beginning of Spring, and with that in mind today we are here to provide some Spring garden maintenance tips.
With the warmer days now starting to make an appearance, it is time to sort our gardens out, ensuring that they are as tidy and immaculate as possible so that they can in turn be enjoyed as much as possible! If you are new to garden maintenance, and do not know where to start, hopefully these tips will help you:
Before you go out to tackle your garden it is important that you plan, ensuring that you know what you need to do and have all of the tools that you are going to need. Just a couple of the things that you should consider at this stage include:
- How are you going to dispose of waste?
- Do you need to buy any materials?
- How much time do you have?
A good place to start your big garden spring clean is disposing of items that you do not need any more as well as debris that has gathered over the winter months. Once you clear your garden you will be able to gain a better idea of the things that you need to do to properly maintain your garden, and it will not seem like as much of a challenge either.
When tidying up your garden you need to properly tidy up and clean your garden paving, at this time you should:
- Sweep your garden paving with a brush, getting rid of any lose dirt and debris
- Remove any weeds and grass growing in between you paving flags
- Power wash your stone paving
- Replace any flags that are cracked or damaged
Use a trimmer to cut the grass in your garden if it is very long, and then go over it with a lawn mower to ensure that it is even and aesthetically pleasing. You might have to go over your grass a few times in order for it too look perfect, especially if you have been letting your grass grow since last Summer!
