This winter has been brutally cold for many of us. This crochet afghan has such happy bright colors, it reminds me of spring and lifts me out of the gloomy mood of mid-winter. The gorgeous pattern was created by Susan Carlson of the Felted Button (she has tons of awesome patterns). The pattern is free and very easy to follow so it would be a great pattern for beginners.  For this project you will need to know how to complete basic crochet stitches: sl, st, ch, sc, dc. This afghan pattern, called “Summer in Sweden,” might help you dream of warmer days. With its warm colors and floral pattern, you might feel that much warmer when cuddled under this afghan. If you’d like to think of this afghan in a more manageable way, you can think of it as a bunch of granny squares sewn together with a border around the edge. In total, this afghan contains 54 squares assembled in a 9 x 6 rectangle. This is a great afghan project if you’re a beginner, or if you have time here and there to work on squares that you can then assemble into a larger blanket.
