Make a Monster Pinata

Make a monster pinata from cereal boxes for your next party! But beware: These piñatas may be too cute for whacking with a stick.

Materials:
- Cereal or cracker boxes
- Colored tissue paper
- Craft paper and other decorations
- Fine wire (optional)
- Glue
- Masking tape
- Scissors

Step 1

Prepare your boxes
Look for boxes that are undamaged, then undo the top opening and cut rounded corners on the front and back of the cereal box, but leave the side flaps uncut. Tape these side fl aps over onto your curved shape to create a closed curved top to your box.

Step 2

Prepare your strips of tissue paper fringing
Cut your colored tissue paper into 10 cm-wide strips. Stack them on top of each other and make vertical cuts 1 cm apart, and about half way through the fringing.

Step 3

Glue on strips of fringing
Use your glue to attach the fringing onto your box. Start at the bottom and work your way up to the top, overlapping your strips slightly so that the fringing will layer. You might like to alternate your colors or use the same color on the bottom half and switch colors for the top half.

Step 4

Decorate your monster
Once the fringes have been glued down, you can decorate your monster with colored craft paper to make its eyes, mouth, ears, bowtie, belt — whatever you can come up with.
