As a native of New York City's Upper East Side, Leighton Meester's character on Gossip Girl always looks chic in her designer wardrobe. Here she's spotted on set in a Gryphon cape, wool skirt, mustard accessories, and the always classic pair of Mary Janes. We think this cape is a great way to spice up a look, and definitely has potential to dethrone your go-to fall peacoat.

The show's fashion has also inspired a new clothing line with Romeo & Juliet Couture that is set to hit stores sometime this fall. In the meantime, check out our vintage-y suggestions!

Sharp and Poised

If capes are a bit too "Once Upon a Time" for you, you can still emulate Leighton’s Upper East Side flair with a pair of Mary Janes. These classic blue ones are retro-ish and sassy.

studded pumps and booties
While we’re on the topic of Gossip Girl, Blake Lively recently wore these stunning studded Brian Atwood pumps. They’ll cost you about $1,900, but Two String Jane has a tutorial for some studded ankle boots that have a similar fearless vibe.
mustard knit hat
Where a typical person would be headed in Leighton’s beret is questionable, so let’s stick with a slouchy mustard hat. Cute, cozy and functional, you can grab one at softspoken’s Etsy shop or make your own with The How-To Gal’s tutorial.
