Cardigan Finished Length 9 1/4 in. (23.5 cm), including edging
Hat 13 in. (33 cm) around (from front edge to front edge)

Step 1

GAUGE
16 sts + 28 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in Seed st. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
 
STITCH EXPLANATION
 
SEED ST (over an odd number of sts)
Row 1 (RS): K1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end
Row 2: K the purl sts and p the knit sts.
Rep Row 2 for Seed st.
K1, p1 Rib (over an odd number of sts)
Row 1: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * across.
Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts.
Rep Row 2 for K1, p1 Rib.
 
LACE EDGING (over 6 sts)
Row 1 (RS): K1, yo, p2tog, k2, yo, k2 – 8 sts on needle at end of row.
Row 2: K5, yo, p2tog, k1.
Row 3: K1, yo, p2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2 – 10 sts on needle at end of row.
Row 4: K7, yo, p2tog, k1.
Row 5: K1, yo, p2tog, k2, (yo, k1) 3 times, yo, k2 – 14 sts on needle at end of row.
Row 6: Bind off 7 sts as if to knit, k3, yo, p2tog, k1 – 7 sts on needle at end of row, ready to work Row 1.
Rep Rows 1-6 for Lace Edging

Step 2

CARDIGAN
 
Back
Cast on 39 sts.
Work in Seed st until piece measures about 4 in. (10 cm) from beg.
Shape Sleeves
Cast on 13 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Work even in Seed st until piece measures about 3 3/4 in. (9.5 cm) from beg of sleeve shaping.

Shape Neck
Next Row: Work in Seed st over first 23 sts; join a 2nd ball of yarn and bind off 19 sts for neck; work in Seed st to end – 23 sts on each side of neck.
Working both sides at the same time with separate balls of yarn, work 2 rows even in Seed st. Continue in Seed st, cast on 2 sts at each neck edge. Then cast on 3 sts at each neck edge twice – 31 sts on each side of neck after all sts have been cast on. Work even in Seed st until piece measures 7 1/2 in. (19 cm) from sleeve cast on.

Shape Fronts
Work in Seed st and bind off 13 sts at beg of next 2 rows – 18 sts on each side of neck after bind-off complete. Work even in Seed st until fronts measure same as back. Bind off.

Step 3

FINISHING
 
Neckband
From RS, pick up and k39 sts evenly spaced around neck edge. Work in K1, p1 Rib for 6 rows. Bind off.
Sleeve Edge Lace (make 2)
Cast on 7 sts. Work in Lace Edging pattern for a total of 6 reps. Bind off. Sew sleeve edge lace to end of sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
 
Lower Edge Lace
Cast on 7 sts. Work in Lace Edging pattern for a total of 15 reps. Bind off. Sew lower edge lace to lower edge of body.
 
Left Front Band
From RS, pick up and k41 sts evenly spaced along left front edge, leaving edge of lace free. Work in K1, p1 Rib for 6 rows. Bind off. Sew lace to side of band.
 
Right Front Band
From RS, pick up and k41 sts evenly spaced along right front edge, leaving edge of lace free. Work in K1, p1 Rib for 2 rows.
Next (Buttonhole) Row (WS) Work in K1, p1 Rib over first 3 sts, bind off 2 sts for buttonhole, work in K1, p1 Rib over next 4 sts, bind off 2 sts for buttonhole, work in K1, p1 Rib to end of previous row.
Next (Buttonhole) Row (RS) Work in K1, p1 Rib across, casting on 2 sts over bound-off sts, of previous row.
Work in K1, p1 Rib for 2 more rows. Bind off. Sew lace to side of band. Sew buttons to left front band opposite buttonholes. Weave in ends.

Step 4

HAT
Cast on 51 sts. Work in Seed st until piece measures 3 in. (7.5 cm) from beg.
 
Shape Back of Hat
Continue in Seed st as established bind off 17 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Work even in Seed st over rem 17 sts until piece measures 4 1/2 in. (11.5 cm) from bound-off sts. Bind off.

Step 5

FINISHING
 
Lace Edging
Cast on 7 sts. Work in Lace Edging pattern for a total of 10 reps. Bind off. Sew lace edging to long, (front) edge of Hat. Sew bound-off sides of Hat to back.
 
Neckband and Ties
From RS, pick up and k35 sts evenly spaced around neck edge.
 
Note: Fewer sts are picked up than were cast on to draw in neck edge of Hat. Work in K1, p1 Rib for 4 rows. Cast on 32 sts at beg of next row for tie. Bind off until only 1 st rem on needle. Cast on 32 sts for 2nd tie. Bind off. Weave in ends.

Step 6

BLANKET
Cast on 79 sts.
Work in Seed st until piece measures about 28 in. (71 cm) from beg.
Bind off.

Step 7

FINISHING
 
Lace Edging
Cast on 7 sts. Work in Lace Edging pattern for a total of 76 reps. Bind off. Sew edging around outside edge of Blanket, sewing 15 lace reps along each short side of Blanket, 21 reps along each long side, and one lace rep at each corner. Weave in ends.

    This is a beautiful pattern & I would say this post was excellent only for the fact that there are no materials listed, so how do we know which yarn to use & what needle size to knit with?
