Have somewhere to be? Make a toy car to get there quickly! This toy wood car, a sedan, is perfect for the streets of the big city, but if you’d rather not park your own car, you can easily paint it as a cab.

Tools & Materials
-Wood, 4" x 6" x 3/4" (100 x 150 x 20mm)
-Non-toxic paint or dye, various colors
-Scroll saw or coping saw
-Palm sander or 150-grit sandpaper and block
-Drill with 7/32" (5.5mm) bit
-Paintbrush
-Store-bought wooden wheels per vehicle, 1 1/2" (38mm) diameter, 1/2"
(13mm) thick, 4
-Wooden pegs to serve as axles per vehicle, 1 1/4" (32mm) long, 7/32"(5.5mm) thick, 4
-Wood glue
-Mallet or hammer

Step 1

Taxi Cab
It is easy to transform your unpainted sedan into a taxi cab. Mix some yellow paint with a touch of orange to make that famous taxi cab yellow color. Use black paint and a fine paintbrush to add the details such as the word “Taxi,” or even checkers if you are feeling really creative and patient.

Step 2

Police Cruiser
For a police car, simply divide the car in thirds. Paint the middle third white and the outer two thirds a dark blue. In the white portion, you could add a yellow star or another law enforcement symbol. If you would like to add a siren, simply drill a hole on the top of the car, paint the top of a dowel red, and glue in place.

Step 3

Additional Steps
Use the drill where shown on the pattern to create the holes for the wheel axles. Install the axles and wheels with a little wood glue, and use a mallet to tap them home. You might need to snip off the ends of the axles if they are too long.
