Soft Baby Blanket

This is a gorgeous baby blanket, it is very simple to make, very soft and brightly colored. I had most of the material in the cupboard. It is approx 1m square, because that was the amount of material I had.

Any shape, animal, tool or vehicle can be appliqued onto the material. There are 3 layers in the blanket, one is soft, fleecy, the middle one is a thin padding and the top one is brightly colored and patterned. As I want to be able to put it in the washing machine, the padding is fairly thin.

Stitching through the three thicknesses gives it a slightly "puffy" look and helps to hold all three layers together. I measured and ruled faint lines as a guide for sewing.

The boat and train were hand drawn, cut out in contrasting colours and zig zagged around the edge. This gave an outline of the truck and boat on the reverse side of the blanket.

For edging I bought some satin ribbon, ironed it in half, pinning it on to hold it in place, then did a zig zag stitch to hold it firmly in place.

The blanket would make a beautiful gift, it is very easy to make and looks fantastic.

Materials: Blue fleecy for backing, a layer of padding, bright pattened material, ribbon for trim.
