Thanksgiving revolves around the dinner table, so these five Thanksgiving centerpieces will put the finishing touch on the holiday's epicenter. Centerpieces serve many purposes. They are pretty naturally, but they also start conversations. A table with a centerpiece offers a sense of completion, a definite signal to attention to detail. It's also simply a reminder of what we're celebrating.

Thanksgiving Centerpieces: Cornucopia from Me and My DIY
Cornucopia

Throughout history, cornucopia has represented abundance and prosperity, so this Thanksgiving centerpiece can be a reminder to be thankful for all the material and substantial things with which America is blessed. It is made with a craft cornucopia base, which is wrapped in burlap and raffia, then filled with a beautiful bounty of fruit and fall vegetables, wheat and nuts.

Thanksgiving Centerpiece: Indian Corn Candle Centerpiece from Eddie Ross
Indian Corn Candle Centerpiece

This fall centerpiece features Indian corn, which is also known as flint corn. This is the type of corn that Native Americans taught the first colonists how to cultivate. It was ideal for them because its high hard starch content made it less prone to spoiling. It's ideal for decorating because this high starch content also causes the kernels to dehydrate uniformly, creating a lovely decorative fall material that also reminds us to be grateful for the kindness of strangers. A bundle of corn wrapped with twine around a large candle votive is a simple and modern reminder of what Thanksgiving is all about.

Thanksgiving Centerpieces: Plush Pumpkins from New House New Home New Life
Plush Pumpkins

I fell in love with these lovely plush pumpkins, and would give thanks for them if they appeared on my dining room table. Adorable and relatively simple, making several of these plush pumpkins for a fun Thanksgiving centerpiece is not difficult. They require fabric cut into variously sized circles, beans or rice to weigh them down, pumpkin stalks, a full hot glue gun, and curly grapevine "twirls." I imagine the hardest part would be acquiring the long pumpkin stalks. It would be completely worth it, though.
