This pattern is originally from Spinnerin, Volume 150, published in 1962. This is no longer in circulation, so in order to make it available for more vintage loving knitters, I am transcribing the instructions exactly as written in the original pattern book and offering them here.

 
Directions are for VINTAGE Women's size 10-12, 14-16. Sizing is according to this chart from the original pattern book:
 
Size - 12 - 14 - 16 - 18
Bust - 34 - 36 - 38 - 40
Waist - 25 - 26 - 28 - 30
 
If you are crafty, you can probably adjust the pattern to fit larger sizes.
 
Original yarn used was:
SPINNERIN Nylaine Quick-Knit, 2-oz. skeins Main Color, MC-11(12) skeins

OR

SPINNERIN Mohair 1001 or Cortina, 1-oz. balls Main Color, MC-21(22) balls

For plaid design - Spinnerin Mohair 1001 or Cortina, 1 oz balls
Color A - 6 balls
Color B - 5 balls
Color C - 5 balls
You can google vintage yarn and get all the specifications you need to shop around for modern equivalents.
 
Gauge: 3 1/2 sts x 5 rows = 1"
 
Needles: Size 9 and 10 knitting needles, size I crochet hook
 
Extras:
3 large buttons
1/2 yard of 2" grosgrain ribbon
1/4 yard of nylon tulle
 
**NOTE: the vertical stripes in the plaid are crocheted in with a slip stitch after knitting the piece.
