Angela is a prolific quilter, a popular teacher, and she has authored several books and many modern quilt pattern designs. She didn't start quilting until after marrying her husband, whose family was filled with quilters. She took lessons from his grandfather, and in the process, she learned how much she enjoyed free motion quilting, especially on modern quilts; it's like doodling with thread. "I'll tell anyone who will listen, that the quilting is the most fun part of making a quilt. I often joke, if quilting is my therapy, then threads are my meds," says Angela.

CraftFoxes.com has lots of free quilt patterns and tutorials to feed your own therapy. In addition to working well for piecing and quilting, cotton thread is perfect for sewing natural, lightweight fabrics or delicate lace.

Headquartered in Italy, Aurifil makes beautiful threads and features color collections from many different designers. Visit their website to learn more about working with cotton thread in different types of sewing and quilting projects.

Be sure to check out the Gen-Q blog for more about Angela and her work. Generation Q Magazine is all about contemporary and modern quilters and their creative lives.

We got to see a few members of our extended family while on vacation. It is amazing that even though we don't see them often, we are still connected and have a rich heritage to lean on. It is always inspiring to be able to spend time with people who can lift and support you.

My last vacation was in the North during the fall season. The crisp air, oranges and browns of the changing leaves all gave me inspiration for a fall quilt I have been collecting fabrics for. Almost ready to get started.

I was inspired by the children that we served in the country of Hungary. They were so eager to learn English and very excited about learning the game of baseball. What fun we had.

I always take lots of pictures while on vacation because I find so many things that inspire my art quilts. It could be a pattern in a rug, metal work or even the beautiful colors in a garden.
