Angela is a prolific quilter, a popular teacher, and she has authored several books and many modern quilt pattern designs. She didn't start quilting until after marrying her husband, whose family was filled with quilters. She took lessons from his grandfather, and in the process, she learned how much she enjoyed free motion quilting, especially on modern quilts; it's like doodling with thread. "I'll tell anyone who will listen, that the quilting is the most fun part of making a quilt. I often joke, if quilting is my therapy, then threads are my meds," says Angela.

CraftFoxes.com has lots of free quilt patterns and tutorials to feed your own therapy. In addition to working well for piecing and quilting, cotton thread is perfect for sewing natural, lightweight fabrics or delicate lace.

Headquartered in Italy, Aurifil makes beautiful threads and features color collections from many different designers. Visit their website to learn more about working with cotton thread in different types of sewing and quilting projects.

Be sure to check out the Gen-Q blog for more about Angela and her work. Generation Q Magazine is all about contemporary and modern quilters and their creative lives.

Last time I had away from home vacation I went to St. Louis, MO and I was inspired by the majestic arc. I stood under it and looked up to see the gleaming silver arc with a bright blue sky above it just took my breath away!

My last vacation was a bus tour with members from my Church. One place I went was Niagara Falls and a ride on the Maid of the Mist boat. I had always wanted to see this magnificent site and was not disappointed. We have some beautiful sites in this great country of ours!

Vacations aren't something my family does. I am inspired by my home surrounding here in beautiful Vermont. I have no need to go anywhere.

I just returned from Australia. The aboriginal fabrics, the sites of the kangaroos asleep between the vineyard rows, the Great Ocean road! What's not to be inspired by?!

My vacations are usually camping and I love being out and away from all the activity of the city. It soothes the soul and provides inspiration from everywhere. The colors in the sky as the sun sets and rises, the colors in the plants and water, and the patterns in nature. I return home refreshed and ready to hit the sewing room. It would be lovely to win these fabulous threads!

My last vacation was to the Gulf Coast of Florida! The beautiful emerald waters and the sound of the waves is an inspiration to me! It was a very relaxing time and when I returned home I was ready to start another project!

My last vacation was at Disney World. The fantasmic show was my best memory from that vacation! I look forward to great memories this summer as our family heads to Yosemite!

my vacations usually involve camping. We've never really taken a ''real'' vacation. The most inspiring part of our camping vacations though, is the peace and QUIET! :) It lets your imagination bloom!

My vacations involve going home (it's a long and infrequent trip between Boston and Sydney). I just love how much things can change in my friends lives (new boyfriends/girlfriends, new jobs, new houses) and yet none of that makes a difference to our relationships. I've recently been following the Vivid Sydney festival, which I'm sorry I missed. It involves lighting up various buildings with different images. I'd really like to incorporate one of those in to a quilt at some point. I think it's a little beyond me at this point though.

I always take photos of interesting patterns and textures as inspiration. I love using photos as jumping off points for color and texture. I would love to win this thread!

I actually found some paving stones and brick walkway patterns inspiring for some quilt pattern ideas. Other than that, just relaxing and being away from all my quilting for a week made me love it more when I got home! The thread is beautiful. I would love to win. Thank you!

Sorry, just saw that I was supposed to comment about what was the most inspiring about my last vacation. I went to Belize, to a resort on Ambergris Caye called Sapphire Beach Resort. I saw sea turtles and sharks and coral while snorkeling. The colors are completely beautiful and saturated. Driving in a golf cart through the jungle, turning toward the water, that incredible blue of the Caribbean was wonderful. I did an underwater quilt depicting all that amazing sea life.
